A Tentative Guide of the Jungle Drift Canoe

This is an easy, peaceful two and half (2 1/2) hour drift down the Belize River. We paddle, you relax. You may choose to help us spot wildlife along the way or enjoy a conversation about the natural history of the river and area. Our ending point is the river banks in front of your Cabin at Howler Monkey Resort.

Normally, we start by traveling by road upstream with our canoes, life vests, drinking water and licensed tour guide to our put in point up stream. From here, we slowly make our way down the meandering Belize river, moving away from civilization to an area where there are no roads nor jungle trails that access the ecosystem of the monkey's jungle; where, howler monkeys, crocodiles, birds, turtles, and other wildlife live in perfect harmony. The Belize River is a natural conduit allowing us to explore the monkey's jungle in a most unobtrusive way, leaving only small ripples; while, still getting to see and appreciate quite a bit of the wildlife around.

After about 2 and half to 3 hours of adventure, hopefully, we return a little bit more inspired and filled with appreciation for how truly beautiful nature really is and the need to continue to treasure it.

• After Breakfast usually around 8 a.m. if not after lunch around 2 p.m. We Meet in the parking lot at Howler Monkey Resort to start our way up to the put in spot up stream.
• 15 minutes later, arrive at put in spot and take canoe(s) down to river.
• Board canoe (3 persons per canoe).
• You start traveling down stream looking for all the different flora and any wildlife coming down for a drink of water and of course we keep an eye out for the elusive Morelet's Crocodile on the river banks sunbathing
• We make frequent pauses to allow us time to see all our sightings at a safe distance from the wildlife

• We should be back at the lodge after 2 and a half to three hours of peaceful exploration

What to bring for the Jungle Drift Canoe Adventure:

1. Binoculars is a must
2. Hat or Cap
3. Bug Spray only for the entrance and exit points
4. Long sleeve shirts and Long pants
5. Reef Safe Sun Screen
6. drinking Water
7. A big serving of your adventurous spirit
